vHighlights #002
Some highlights from VMware ecosystem and Virtualisation in general from the past 7 days. Announcements, discoveries, and useful bits-and-bobs found on the internet. Week ending 19 March 2017
- vCenter Server 6.5.0b was released on 14 March bringing a number of bug fixes and also an update to Apache Struts to resolve CVE-2017-5638 which has hit the headlines recently. It also introduces improvements to the vSphere HTML5 Client.
- An interesting video from VMware’s Mike Foley on VM Encryption and vMotion Encryption features in vSphere 6.5.
- The Register has uncovered yet another storage company planning a Hyperconverged offering- this time with Solidfire. Only a couple of weeks ago they broke a similar story about Nimble Storage, although I’m not sure how that will continue in light of the HPE purchase and their existing Simplivity and HC380 ranges. Last week I discovered at the Insight Tech Show that even QNAP are getting in on the act.
- Microsoft have extended support for Windows Server 2012 so it now ends October 2023 for both R2 and non-R2 versions. Also on the support front remember that Windows Vista and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS both expire in April 2017.
- I squeezed in some Lunchtime learning this week- clocking up some points for team #LonVMUG on Cloud Credibility. The regular “Triple Point Tuesday” was back, and details of some of the new tasks this week can be found here.
