Virtualisation Conferences 2024

Conference season is starting, and if you haven’t been planning already then get the details of the big Virtualisation conferences this year!

VMware (by Broadcom) Explore

VMworld, renamed for the last few years to “Explore” was always the biggest virtualisation conference on the planet. It was the place to be to keep up-to-date on the latest developments in the hypervisor-driven world, with the biggest players - Microsoft, Nutanix, RedHat and others - sponsoring and exhibiting at the event.

Whilst there’s been a lot of news around VMware following the Broadcom acquisition, they’re still the leaders in this market so the annual conference continues to be an important pair of dates in the calendar. Expect to see a lot of news now the dust has settled. The US leg is being held in Las Vegas at the end of August, with the European event returning to Barcelona in November.

Nutanix .NEXT

The first event on this calendar is Nutanix .NEXT which is being held at the end of May in Barcelona. Nutanix have made no secret of a desire to pick up some of VMware’s customers following the changes in the past few months so this conference is a big opportunity for Nutanix to showcase what they can do.

Microsoft Ignite

Microsoft Ignite covers a lot of ground- from Windows, to Dynamics, to Power Platform, and Azure. Somewhere in there is still the heart of an on-premises hypervisor, and virtualisation is alive and well at Microsoft with the Azure Stack and Windows Server Hyper-V products. Windows Server 2025 will be bounding over the horizon so expect lots of announcements there.

The Microsoft conference is rounding off the year in late November and is being held both online and in-person in Chicago. And as I started this post by remembering the previous incarnation of VMware Explore, let’s not forget November marks the 10th anniversary of the last Microsoft TechEd conference, Ignite’s predecessor.
